FERAL HOLLOW APOTHECARY

Autumn 2026 Cohort

Consultation invitations will be sent in September, with initial intakes beginning in October.

FERAL HOLLOW APOTHECARY

Clinical Herbalism ·  Functional Nutrition  · Deep Ecology

You've read everything. You've fought for every answer. You know more about your body than most doctors do.

...And you're still not sure how to get through a Tuesday.

Maybe you've sat across from providers who nodded politely and sent you home with nothing. Maybe you've learned to minimize, to qualify, to preemptively apologize for your own symptoms. Maybe you've spent years collecting diagnoses that explain parts of you but never quite the whole picture - or maybe you don't have diagnoses at all, just a body that responds to the world with an intensity that no one around you seems to share.

You are not too complicated or too much. You are not broken.

You don't need another practitioner to just nod along. You need someone trained to listen to the language of your body - and who can translate your symptoms into a strategy.

WELCOME TO FERAL HOLLOW

I'm River Marshall - a disabled, neurodivergent clinical herbalist                          living at the edge of a magical mountain forest in the Blue                              Ridge, in a home my family built by hand. We haul our                             water. We grow our food. We steward a botanical sanctuary                           that was entrusted to us by the mentors who shaped                                   everything about how I practice and how I live.

My clinical methodology is rooted in a decade of land-based                          apprenticeship and rigorous contemporary clinical science. I                           work at the intersection of evidence-based herbalism and the                           older, wilder ways of knowing that this forest has taught me.

I also live in a complex, highly sensitive body. I have navigated the same medical labyrinths my clients are navigating. I know what it is to fight for answers, to be disbelieved, to spend years accumulating explanations that don't add up to a life you can actually live. That experience doesn't just inform my empathy - it lives in my clinical methodology. I practice from my body, not despite it.

Before I open every new client file, I step outside onto this land and make an

offering for the work we'll do together. You are held here with intention

from the very beginning.

My service dog Rain is usually nearby.

WHO FINDS THEIR WAY HERE:

You don't need a diagnosis to work with me. You need a body that isn't being served by the systems you've tried - and the willingness to approach it differently.

I work primarily with::

  • Highly Sensitive and Complex Systems -—Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), Dysautonomia/POTS, Hypermobile EDS (hEDS), and the overlapping terrain where these conditions meet

  • Systemic Patterns - Post-viral illness and Long COVID, Celiac, complex digestive conditions, autoimmunity

  • Neurodivergent Bodies and Families - ADHD, Autistic, and 2e individuals seeking sensory-friendly, low-spoon care that actually respects how you're wired

  • Anyone whose body speaks in a language conventional medicine hasn't learned to hear

CLINICAL RIGOR + METHODOLOGY

I operate at the intersection of land-based wisdom and rigorous contemporary clinical science. I don’t simply match a symptom to an herb. I build a functional picture of what is driving your physiological patterns. By synthesizing your existing lab work, multi-system symptom history, and physiological markers, we identify the 'upstream' drivers of your flare-ups. This is a data-driven approach that rejects the ableist framework of 'optimizing' a body for productivity - instead, we use clinical data to build the sustainable rhythms that allow you to flourish in the body you actually inhabit.

I am a disabled and neurodivergent person. This is an affirming, access-centered practice. You are safe to be exactly who you are here, because I reserve the space to be exactly who I am. Together, we create the community we long for.

WHAT WE BUILD TOGETHER: THE ROOT + RESILIENCE STRATEGY

This is a three-month clinical container - unhurried, rigorous, and                       built entirely around the terrain of your body.

We don't start with protocols. We start with your story.

In our time together, we will:

  • Map your functional matrix - tracing the web of connections between your symptoms, your history, and the underlying patterns driving them, so that your body finally makes sense to you

  • Build your health timeline (Your Story So Far) - finding the threads that connect what seemed like unrelated events into a coherent narrative

  • Craft custom herbal and supplement protocols drawn from clinical science, traditional plant medicine, and my own apothecary here at Feral Hollow

  • Build a flare plan - so that the hard days have a container too,

and you're never without a path back to ground

  • Integrate nutrition, movement, nervous system, and lifestyle at the

pace your body sets, not the pace a protocol demands

You'll also have access to my FARM-TO-CLINIC APOTHECARY, and a 35%

discount on supplements through Fullscript.

This work is designed to leave you equipped - with knowledge,

with tools, with a relationship to your own body that doesn't

depend on anyone else to interpret it for you.

THE STRUCTURE

Session 1: The Deep Dive (1-2 hours). More than a clinical intake. This is where we listen to your life's story and begin to learn the language your body speaks.

  • Note: You will have access to your intake form in the portal well in advance, and you are encouraged to save your progress and complete it in chunks that honor your energy levels.

Session 2::The Strategy Session (1 hour). Where we map your custom Root + Resilience protocol together.

Continuing Care: Follow-up sessions every 2-3 weeks throughout our three months - adjusting, listening, and tracking the subtle shifts in your biology as they emerge. We continuously collaborate to adjust your protocols, refine your custom botanical formulas, and adapt your care plan to the realities of your daily life. Between our formal sessions, you have access to continuous asynchronous support via email, text, or voice memo directly through PracticeBetter so you are never left to navigate a flare or a protocol change alone.

Sustainable Long-Term Care

Although I always hope to work myself out of having a job, as someone living in a disabled body I understand that healing often happens over years, not months. At the end of our three months, I offer a Monthly Maintenance Membership (sliding scale $200-400 per month) and a Quarterly Check-In (sliding scale $400-600 to cover a longer, more intensive check-in session) so that you can continue to access support at a pace that honors your ongoing journey.

How I Honor Capacity + Low-Spoon Access

I practice from my body, not despite it. During some sessions I may ask if you're comfortable if I have my camera off, or work from a reclined position. This is me modeling what I'm asking of you: that we meet our bodies where they are, not where we wish they were. I also offer all my clients low-spoon options of working with me. If long online sessions will push you into flare, we can shift to email or voice memos, brainstorm a safer sensory container, or break sessions up into smaller lengths of time.

EQUITABLE FINANCIAL RECIPROCITY

The financial burden of living in a chronically ill body is real, and I have felt it. I use a sliding scale because high-quality functional medicine should not be accessible only to people with financial privilege.

I trust you to choose the tier that honestly reflects your situation. Each rate is for             the full 3-month container, and payment plans are always available.

  • Redistribution Rate - $5,500: For those with home ownership, inherited wealth, or significant expendable income. This rate directly subsidizes care for others.

  • Sustainable Rate - $3,750:: The standard fee covering clinical research, protocol development, the sanctuary's

infrastructure, and your full three-month container.

  • Solidarity Rate - $1,500:: For those navigating

                                     significant financial hardship or debt.

Farm-to-clinic apothecary access and Fullscript discount included at

                                                  all tiers.

A quick note on fees: Conventional insurance is built for acute, compartmentalized care - 15-minute appointments, siloed specialists, and generalized protocols. Complex bodies require the exact opposite. Operating outside of the insurance model allows me to provide what insurance will not cover - unhurried 90-minute deep dives, extensive behind-the-scenes research into your unique functional matrix, and continuous, integrated oversight between our sessions.

Financial privilege is not a simple number though, and I believe transparency should move in both directions. You can explore a detailed breakdown of my fees, what they cover, and my sliding scale model on the RECIPROCITY + ACCESS page.

There have been moments in my own journey when I couldn't access even the bottom

rung. If that is where you are right now, please visit the WEB OF CONNECTION page or reach out via email for additional resources.

Because this work requires genuine depth, I open Feral Hollow to 9 - 10 new cohort members each season. The waitlist ensures you receive early access to the intake application before the Autumn opening.

Before I open your file, I step out onto the land to make an offering for our work together. Your healing is held here with intention from the very start. If that calls to you, sign up for the Autumn waitlist below.

"Healing is a journey into developing right relationship with your internal and external worlds.  It can occur on any of the four planes of existence - physical,  emotional,  mental  or spiritual. A change occurring in any one of these areas will cause a reordering in the other three. Any journey taken is greatly helped by an experienced guide.  River Marshall carries a competency developed through experience. She is an accomplished healer that can facilitate your journey with her ability to translate the scientific; illuminate the mental/emotional realms; create a safe space in the spiritual; and ground you into a balanced relationship with the physical world. I can't think of a better companion with which to travel the path of healing.

OUR FOUNDATIONS:

  • Land Stewardship + Indigenous Acknowledgement - We honor, respect, and uplift relatives of the Monacan tribal nation on whose traditional land all our work is made possible.  Read more about the Monacan people here. Learn about the indigenous people, territories, treaties, and languages where you are through the Native-Land Map.

  • Accessibility + Inclusivity at Feral Hollow - Feral Hollow is a sanctuary for all bodies and minds. We strive to make our digital home as accessible as our physical one, especially for those navigating high-symptom days or sensory sensitivities. We manage our own technology though and are always learning!
